Arthur's Adventures II

Hello again. Part II - this time in my travels across Japan!

1. This is a Shinkansen. They're pretty fast, clean and quiet. Pretty perfect transport I guess (ignoring the time I got one that stopped at EVERY stop from Kyoto to Tokyo, a total of 5 hours that I won't get back).

2. Some steps in Hakone, just next to Lake Ashi. Lake Ashi is a huge lake from which you can see Mt Fuji on clear days.

3. A buddha in Nagano. I think the red adds a lot. It's a tradition in Japan to sometimes put items of clothing on certain statues.

4. Matsumoto Castle seen from the other side of the moat. It's one of the three big castles in Japan and was pretty impressive. It may look like there are five floors, but there are in fact six (one's a smaller floor for keeping arms)

5. A pretty lake in a park in Morioka.

6. I travelled North to Nikko - a touristy spot with a huge temple complex. As you can see it's different to the Chinese style, with a lot of golds. It's more subtle.

7. This is the Shinkyo (a sacred bridge) in Nikko. I wasn't allowed to cross it, but the river looked pretty fantastic. It's just outside the grounds of the temple complex.

8. This is my Grandfather's house! Cheeky bit of lens flare. Including sliding doors, tatami matted floors and a nice garden.
